Columbus V-2000 – Battery Depletion, GPS Log File Saving, and External Power Banks

Will the V-2000 save the current GPX file if the battery runs out during recording?

Yes. When the V-2000 detects that its internal battery is nearly depleted, it will automatically shut down.

Before shutting down, the device will finalize and save the current GPX file, helping ensure that the recorded track remains complete and readable.

Can the V-2000 continue GPS logging while connected to a USB power bank?

Yes. The V-2000 supports simultaneous charging and GPS logging, allowing it to continue recording while connected to an external USB power bank.

Important: Some power banks automatically shut off when the connected device draws very little current.

For reliable continuous operation, we recommend using a power bank that supports low-current charging (typically around 10 mA) or one with a suitable continuous-output mode.

Tip: If you plan to use a power bank for extended GPS logging sessions, test your particular power bank with the V-2000 beforehand to ensure that it maintains power continuously.
