What Is the Difference Between the Standard and Customized Wake-Up Logging Firmware on the Columbus P-10 Pro?

The Columbus P-10 Pro offers two firmware options for interval-based GPS logging: Standard Firmware and Customized Firmware.

The key difference is the number of GPS track points recorded each time the device wakes up.

1. Standard Firmware — 8 Track Points per Wake-Up

The standard firmware records 8 GPS track points each time the device wakes up at the configured logging interval.

This is the default firmware installed on the Columbus P-10 Pro.

2. Customized Firmware — 1 Track Point per Wake-Up

The customized firmware records only 1 GPS track point per wake-up cycle, reducing power consumption and significantly extending battery life.

This option is particularly useful for long-term GPS tracking projects where maximizing battery life is more important than collecting multiple track points during each wake-up cycle.

Battery Life Comparison

The following table compares the estimated battery runtime of both firmware versions at different logging intervals.

Logging Interval Standard Firmware (8 Points) Customized Firmware (1 Point)
Every 2 minutes 12 days 17 days
Every 5 minutes 17 days 24 days
Every 10 minutes 20 days 28 days

Battery runtimes are estimates and may vary depending on operating conditions and device settings.

Which Firmware Should You Choose?

Standard Firmware is suitable for applications that benefit from recording multiple GPS points during each wake-up cycle.

Customized Firmware is ideal for applications that require only one GPS position per logging interval, especially long-term research, wildlife tracking, and remote monitoring projects where frequent battery charging is impractical.

For example, at a 2-minute logging interval, customized firmware can extend the estimated battery life from 12 days to 17 days, an improvement of approximately 42%.

How Can I Order the Customized Firmware?

Customized firmware is available for volume orders that meet the manufacturer's Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) requirements.

For qualifying orders, we can coordinate with the Columbus factory to have the customized firmware installed before shipment.

Please contact our sales team at info@gpswebshop.com before placing your order to discuss your project requirements, order quantity, and customization options.

Important: The Columbus P-10 Pro ships with standard firmware by default. Customized firmware must be arranged and confirmed in advance.
